Campinas (brazilian city) Recognizes the Armenian Genocide

Campinas-cityOn December 16 the City Hall of the Brazilian city of Campinas (Sao Paulo) officially informed the Armenian Embassy in Brazil that , Mayor Demétrio Vilagra signed the resolution on recognition of the Armenian Genocide adopted by the City Council on November 20.

The bill comes into force after the ratification of the Mayor and publication in the Diario Oficial daily. According to the document, April 24 will be included in the calendar of memorable events and will be marked every year as the Day of Commemoration of Armenian Genocide victims, Public Radio reports.

The city of Campinas has a population of 1.2 mln. It is one of the industrial, agricultural and scientific-cultural centers of Sao Paolo and has a small Armenian community.
